Day Nine, Cocktail Nine
Today I have a brand new cocktail that I worked out last night. It was a great finish to a very summer like day here in Milwaukee…and it definately gets me ready for warm weather and Tiki inspired cocktails. It won’t be long now! So, without further adieu, the Almond Orange Sunrise!
Almond Orange Sunrise
- 2 oz Mount Gay white rum
- 2 oz fresh orange juice
- 1/4 oz orgeat
- 1/4 oz grenadine
Stir the rum, orange juice and orgeat together in a shaker with 4-5 cubes of ice. Pour into a rocks glass and top with the grenadine. Garnish with an orange slice.
Ok, so I know you’re sitting there thinking to yourself, “What the hell is orgeat?” Orgeat is an almond flavored bar syrup. It is sweet and almond flavored (I know, you would have never guessed that), and is absolutely a must for a large number of Tiki style cocktails. Most well stocked liquor stores will have it and its relatively inexpensive, usually less than five bucks. Go ahead, pick up a bottle, grab the rum and fruit juice and experiment! Let me know what drinks you come up with at twilightlounge@att.net. I’d love to try out your recipe and post it here for all to enjoy!
Cheers!
